About Alphanume News

Alphanume News reports on people and firms in hedge funds and quantitative and proprietary trading. Everything here comes from primary public records: filings on the SEC's EDGAR system, SEC litigation releases and administrative proceedings, and Justice Department press releases.

How stories are made

  • Every fact comes from a primary record. Each story cites that record at the end, with its accession or release number and a link to the original.
  • Numbers are copied from the record's own fields. A number that does not match the source is dropped.
  • Rules classify each record first. A language model classifies what the rules leave over and proposes quotes, and every quote it proposes must appear word for word in the record. The models and prompt versions used are listed on each story.
  • Stories are written from fixed templates, checked by automatic validators, and approved by a panel of independent AI reviewers before publication. A story is published only when every reviewer approves it.
  • Allegations are labeled. A charge is not a finding.
  • We do not publish home addresses, phone numbers, or anything about minors or health.

Fund filings

New fund filings lists hedge-fund Form D filings as facts only. Amounts are the "total amount sold" as filed, which is not a fundraising total. Updates are amendments to earlier filings.
